Each year, GiveMN facilitates a huge day of online giving for non-profit organizations called Give to the Max day. This year, Give to the Max day took place on November 16, 2017, and Survivor Resources received a record breaking $5,875 from donors. We owe a HUGE thank you to Mill City Credit Union for being our largest donor and writing us a check for $4,500! Funds raised this year will be used to provide transportation for clients to and from grief support groups that wouldn’t be able to attend otherwise. THANK YOU to everyone that donated!
On October 21, 2017, Survivor Resources partnered with the American Culinary Federation Minneapolis Chef’s Chapter to host the 15th Annual Megan Fischer Memorial Auction. The event was held at St. Mary’s Lake Calhoun Center and included 8 gourmet food stations, 63 silent auction baskets and 10 items auctioned off live by WCCO’s very own John Hines. With the help of our donors we were able to raise $7,220!
Every year, Survivor Resources holds a Service of Remembrance to honor our clients’ loved ones and celebrate their lives through a presentation and lighting of candles.
This year, the memorial took place on December 10th at the Hamline University Anderson Center. We spent the afternoon with 88 families, remembering the loved ones they lost to homicide, suicide, accident or overdose death.

For anyone who experienced a loss from a traumatic event, the grieving process can be quite different from someone else’s grieving process.
“Any loss of life is tragic, but when it’s unexpected and violent, there is a shock that comes with it,” said Julie McConaha, executive director for Survivor Resources >
On Monday, June 8, more than 300 supporters of Survivor Resources gathered together for our 13th annual nonprofit fundraiser, Walk to Remember, Walk for Hope. Over $50,000 was raised for our organization this year, which helps support our work with individuals dealing with the loss of a loved one due to homicide, suicide, overdose or accidental death.
We were thankful for a beautiful Minnesota evening, and enjoyed our time walking around Lake Como in St. Paul. Divine Swine served a delicious barbeque in the Como Park East Pavilion. We were visited by the St. Paul police department’s K-9 unit and mounted patrol. At dusk, those who wished to light a candle in memory of the loved one they lost, were able to do so.
This year, many participants preregistered and raised fund through an online portal provided by FirstGiving.com, and Survivor Resources awarded the first 50 registrants a free t-shirt. The entrance fee was $50 and included the entire night’s events.
